The Spicy Sicilian · scripps ranch · $$
Three spicy meats, a cloud of stracciatella, hot honey, house bread that holds. My cousin's been quoting it for a week.

A bottle of Lambrusco from the wine wall
The first time we drove out to Scripps Ranch my cousin spent the whole 78 complaining we were going to a strip mall for a sandwich. Then we walked in. The deli case alone shut him up — imported salumi behind glass, fresh stracciatella, a wall of wine you'd actually want to drink. We ordered the Spicy Sicilian, walked to the parking lot, and ate it leaning on the hood.
He didn't talk for a while.
“The deli case alone shut him up.”
The bread
This is the part that decides everything for him. He's a bread guy. If the roll caves he doesn't care what's inside. The Buon Cibo loaf holds — dense crumb, real crust, takes the hot honey without getting sad about it. He gave it a 9.7. I'd have given it a 9.5 because I think the crust could go a hair darker, but I'm not the one running the spreadsheet.
The filling
Three spicy meats — mortadella, capocollo, soppressata — sliced thin and stacked so you taste them as a chord, not three separate notes. The stracciatella is the trick. It melts into everything and turns the heat slow and creamy instead of sharp. Hot honey isn't a gimmick here, it's structural. Pepperoncini for the bite. Arugula because somebody has to bring the green.
My cousin says it's the best filling on the list right now. I agree but I'm playing it cool. We've only been twice.
The people
Family-run, opened February 2026, in a corner of Scripps Ranch nobody had on a sandwich map. The guy behind the counter remembered our order on the second visit. They cure their own meats and bake their own bread and sell wine you'd want to drink. The deli case feels like somebody's grandmother's pantry, if grandma had really specific taste.
The verdict
I asked him what's keeping it from a 10. He said "we've been twice." We'll go a third time before the year's out and I'll be shocked if it doesn't move up. Most #1s on this list earned it through tradition. Buon Cibo earned it by being the most interesting sandwich in the city right now, full stop.
